Acupuncture How Does It Work Traditional Chinese Medicine is the oldest medicine practiced in the world, dating back more than 2,000 years. Chinese Medicine is unique in its theory and practice. This time tested medicine believes that the human body is composed of Qi (pronounced chee) or energy and blood. The two constantly move in the body pathways called meridians. Good health is when the Qi and blood flow smoothly within the meridians.
Acupuncture, which is only one form of Traditional Chinese Medicine treats to balance disorders of the Qi and blood. Trained acupuncturists use their knowledge to diagnose imbalances in the Qi (Energy). They also devise an individual treatment plan to restore balance and resolve the disease. The modern scientific explanation, for the success of acupuncture, is that the needles stimulate the nervous system. This releases chemicals in the brain called endorphins. These chemicals trigger the body’s natural healing abilities, in order to promote physical health and emotional well being.
What Should You Expect? During your first visit, time is taken to get to know you and your overall health picture. The initial visit usually lasts 1˝ hours. An acupuncture treatment is included as part of your first visit. Follow-up visits are usually scheduled for one hour. The number of treatments needed to resolve a problem differs from person to person. The treatments are designed to meet your individual needs.
About The Needles The needles are very thin, almost hair like. The needles are sterile and they are disposed of after use. None are ever re-used. The needling experience is different for everyone. Most people feel relaxed or energized after the needles are inserted. Patients who are unusually sensitive to needles can be treated using newer techniques such as bio-magnets or Herbal Medicine. |
